What's On My Bookshelf: Divergent

I am going to start a new series of posts called "What's On My Bookshelf" to talk about some good books that I'm currently reading or recommend! 

This first book I'll be talking about is Divergent by Veronica Roth. Here is a summary of the book from the book cover: 

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. It's 487 pages but the font is pretty large and it's pretty spaced out so it's more like 300+ pages. Divergent is the first book of the Divergent trilogy. Divergent is a more intense and dark variation of a dystopian novel. Other books like Matched by Ally Condie and Delirium by Lauren Oliver focus more on romance while Diverent has more action to it. So if you're looking for action, this is a good book for you! It does have some romance though. I think because it's focused more on action and a suspenseful plot that it lacks in descriptive quality. It just doesn't have as much imagery or details but it's a good story nonetheless. I really do recommend this book to you guys and I hope you find this book interesting!
